I’d like to share my experience about my recovery from rhinoplasty. I had a rhinoplasty last year and I am very happy with it. I am an Asian who had a flat nose. A silicon implant was inserted into my nose bridge to making it look that my nose bridge is now level with the bone in between my eyes.

Immediately after the operation I was brought to the recovery room. Since I was sedated I was still groggy after 2 hours of operation. They waited for me to wake up. I only spent an hour in the recovery room.

Since I was an outpatient, my husband drove me back home. During the first night, it was very uncomfortable. My nose had a packing so it gets in the way of my sight. I felt a little pain. It felt as if I had a very bad cold or sinusitis. My eyes are watery. I felt like I was having a flu.

But this was only during the first day. When I woke up the next day, I felt a little better. We went back to the rhinoplasty doctor to remove the suture. I still have the packing on the nose because the doctor said it will protect my nose in case of accidental bumps.

The first week is the hardest. I wasn’t able to move much. I just stayed at home, either sitting down or reclining with my head up. The prescription medication for the pain was really helpful but since there is still packing on my nose, it still felt uncomfortable.

My nose swell and my eye looked like I was badly hit by a professional boxer. But the swelling, bruises and the black eye were gone after the first week. The nose packing was also removed after the first week.

After the first week, everything was easier. I was able to walk and drive but I was still careful that my nose will not be bumped. The doctor says that the silicon implant is not yet fully glued to the muscles until after 6 months.

After a rhinoplasty, only the first week is the hardest. After the first week, everything will slowly go back to normal. I still have my silicon implant in my nose bridge after a year of rhinoplasty It’s already part of my nose tissues that I don’t remember that I had a rhinoplasty.
